Invocation of Offerings
Invocation of Offerings

This was a further insurance against the worry that their immortality could be placed in jeopardy. The Invocation of Offerings was a menu that could be activated by magic and so provide the deceased with food in the afterlife.

At the top of the menu, there is a formula called ‘hetep-di-nesew’ (Htp di nsw, formula invoking Anubis, at times Osiris, and requesting prt Xrw ).

Nesew meaning king, di meaning give and hetep meaning offering or boon, ‘a boon given by the king’, meaning that all the offerings in all the tombs were by the bounty of the king.
